Spain is one of the greatest destinations in the world especially when it comes to the tourism sector. The country is further sub divided into regions that act in an autonomous way meaning that what you get to experience in one region is not necessarily what you get at another. This makes the country one of the most diverse economies of the world. To emphasize on how diverse the regions are, some even have their own versions of languages. Each region has its own unique celebrations and where festivals look the same, the set ups are totally different; thus not one festival is identical to the next.
There are some regions in Spain that are quite popular while others have a lot of potential but are yet to be discovered. One such area is the Extremadura region that has Merida for a capital. It is a region where you can greatly enjoy rural tourism in a setting that has virgin lands and a lot of natural beauty. There are museums and ancient monuments that will be most notable during a tour to this region. It is a place totally worth your time and with proper planning, you will be able to achieve a lot during your visit regardless of how short or long it is.
One of the attractions in the area is the capital city of Merida. It has great monuments from the Roman era which include colossal theatre, amphitheatre, aqueducts that are two in number as well as a bridge. There is also a museum in the city displaying roman art work within. The collection cannot be valued in monetary terms.
The area of Caceres is also totally incredible. There is an old quarter located here that is truly beautiful. The enclosure of this is some Moorish kind of town walls. There are also many watch towers in the region that facilitate views. There are palaces of the renaissance era.
Another fascinating area is Trujillo. It is the place where Pizarro was actually born. He was quite an eminent conqueror. There are castles of the medieval era with town walls very nicely preserved as well as many doors.
The town of Guadalupe has beauty too. The highlight here is a monastery created in a style called Mudejar. Great art works are found here and it is worth your time.
The town of Plasencia is also a great attraction. There are cathedrals, walls of a medieval time as well as a number of palaces located here. The last interesting place is Badajoz. The famous Alcazaba is located here and there are watch towers as well as walls that are fascinating.
